Every wine-growing country of the world is presented by experts in terms the layperson will appreciate. Numerous photographs and over 150 detailed maps provide an accurate overview of the region concerned. Explanations of the labels of interesting wines and recommendations of producers, domaines, chвteaux, and wineries offer the reader pointers through the ever-growing maze of the worldwide wine industry.
Andrй Dominй, born in Hamburg, started putting down roots in a wine-growing village in southern France in 1981. He learned there to prune and look after vines, working in a winery before publishing his first book on wine in 1986. He was one of the first journalists to write regularly about the wines of southern France, and since then he has sniffed and tasted his way through the vineyards and cellars of France, Spain, the United States, South Africa, and other interesting wine countries. In his articles in the well-known wine and food periodicals as well as in his books, Andrй Dominй is an enthusiastic advocate of wine. In the CULINARIA series European Specialties, Organic & Wholefoods, and Culinaria France, he encourages his readers to seek out high-quality culinary experiences.
Food & drink has been the subject of Armin Faber's photography for more than 20 years. In his worldwide travels he has taken over 200,000 photographs, which have been published in numerous cookbooks and wine guides. For the last ten years, Armin Faber has worked with Thomas Pothmann in Dьsseldorf. At their studio, they specialize in still life, food, people, and promotional photography. Apart from work, they also share a love of wine and an enthusiasm for blues and jazz.

Library Journal
Both novice and experienced wine lovers will savor this lushly illustrated, gorgeously packaged introduction to the world of wine. After opening with a brief history of this intoxicating potable, it covers the basics on choosing, serving, tasting, and storing wine. Readers are then whisked into the vineyard to see how grapes are cultivated and into the winery to observe the bottling process. The book's focus then shifts from an overview of its subject to a detailed look at 13 different wine-producing regions and countries. Coverage of each region or country includes a historical overview, detailed growing maps, production details and statistics, and a selection of wine producers with samples of their labels. The Oxford Companion to Wine (LJ 12/94) will still be the first choice for libraries needing a basic reference to this subject, but with its sleek visual look and abundant illustrations and photographs, this volume by Domine (who edited Culinaria France) will be a valuable counterpart to this standard source. Recommended for both academic and large public libraries. John Charles, Scottsdale P.L., AZ Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
